How To Treat A Persistent Cough With Sore Throat?

My mum had a slight cold with a really sore throat about 4weeks ago. She has a chesty cough now and I went to the doctors with her. She is on 4th day of taking antibiotics and has just 1 more day to go. Even though it is slightly improved i.e. not coughing so much it does not seem to be that much better to me. She does not smoke and is not coughing anything up either. She is eating and drinking lots of fluids and otherwise seems fine. How long ill the antibiotics take to kick in?

antibiotic effect would have already kicked in.
cough usually persists even after the infection is under control.
she should take complete voice rset, it will settle in a few more days.
cough syrup will also help.
talk to your doctor.
