How To Treat A Sore Throat That Is Cause Difficulty In Swallowing?
I am a 40 yr old female. I've had a sore throat for about five days with pain swallowing and some loss of voice. I've also had some coughing and runny nose. I've had strep numerous times and the soreness feels very much like strep. I looked in my throat to see if I had any puss pockets and there is a large area in left side of throat that looks like puss. It really scared me to see my eppiglottis which I have never seen before. I saw a dr last night who didn't do a strep test or look at eppiglottis. She said I just have pharyngytus and sent me home with a pain pill. Should I go back in tomorrow? My throat is very sore but the dr made me feel stupid. I was really scared when I saw eppiglottis and was worried it meant something serious.
I understand your concern but there is no need to worry. Sore throat infections caused by Strep doesn't go with runny nose and coughing. This indicates that this is a viral infection. I suggest you to drink a lot of fluids (tea, water...) and take the pain pills your doctor gave you. If the symptoms won't dosappear in a day or two then visit your GP again.
I hope this answer was helpful to you.
