How To Treat Alcoholic Neuropathy Leading To Feet Numbness And Weight Loss?

Hi. I am a recovering alcoholic (about 5 years with some relapses) and I have had alcoholic neuropathy in the past. This typically consisted of numbness in the soles of my feet as well as my knees after sitting and drinking for months at a time, weight loss due to lack of appetite = vitamin deficiencies, etc. In the past I have regained all feeling in the associated areas of numbness relatively quickly after ceasing alcohol consumption (2 weeks or so). This last relapse was not unlike others that I have had, lasting about 4 months...weight went from about 185 to about 135. I stopped drinking in early September putting me at about 5 1/2 months of renewed sobriety. My questions relate to two things, 1) I have lasting numbness in my knees/some in feet, after all of this time even though I have been adhering to a regular healthy diet + vitamin supplements and abstaining from alcohol. I spoke to one neurologist locally who said that it could last up to a year but I guess I'm just thrown off because in the past I have always recovered so quickly. I was wondering if there is anything else I should be doing to combat this or if this could even be permanent? A side note to this is that my balance has been off too...this is new to me.So my life has gone almost completely back to normal, my weight is getting back up there (around 172 now), I've been in the gym almost daily, etc. I was just hoping to get some insight on what I can expect and anything else that I can do to potentially help myself recover/regain feeling in these areas as it is, of course, affecting my life adversely. I appreciate any help on the matter!!Dan
