How To Treat An Aged Person Who Overdoses In A Day?
hi i am jitendra.i want to ask a question that my father sleeps more than 12 hours in a day,he doesnt listen to us when we say him to sleep normal hours.he is 55 plus and he has high blood sugar i.e diabetes also high blood pressure.i just want to know that is thsi oversleeping going to affect his health.what should i do?
Hi Jitendra, The elderly require more rest compared to the actively working middle aged. Importantly it is to sleep regularly and as you have mentioned normal hours. Abnormal hours or abnormal sleeping can affect the body inducing abnormal metabolism resulting in uncontrolled sugar, cardiovascular disorders and blood pressure.
Importantly verify whether he has a normal sleep or disturbed sleep (snoring, choking or altered breathing). His disturbed sleep in the night could be affecting him to sleep more during the day. Check for any side effects of medications. Check if he has morning headaches.
Meet you doctor for evaluation. You can get a nocturnal polysomnography or sleep test to rule out any sleep disorders.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further followup queries, happy to help
