Hello,
I can understand your concern. The lesion could be benign or malignant as it is persistent for about 9 months. The benign lesions could be
fibroma,
myoma, papilloma etc. while it might be cancerous.
To have confirmed diagnosis,
biopsy is required. As the lesion is 3 mm is size, entire lesion should be excised by oral surgeon and should be sent for biopsy.
The biopsy results can indicate what type of cells are involved in the tumor, whether the growth is benign, precancerous or cancerous and based on the type of cells and type of tumor, prognosis can be determined.
If the lesion is benign, it is excised and no more treatment is needed. It can be watched for recurrence. If it is precancerous, follow up should be made for watching progression into cancer from the same side. If it is cancerous, further
chemotherapy or radiotherapy or both can advised by
oncologist.
I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing HCM. Take care.
Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
