How To Treat Bronchiectasis While Suffering From Pneumonia?
I have been diagnosed with alpha-1 antitrypson defeciency and Factor 5 Leiden. I recently had bilateral pulmonary emboli in both lower lobes of my lungs. I now have been diganosed with emphysema, COPD, atelecstasis/bronchiectasis. I am just getting over a bout of pneumonia. my doctor seems to be very concerned of my bronchiectstasis/atelcstasis? what does all of this mean?
You are having bronchiectasis secondary to alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency and the treatment is preventing the infections and some lung exercises so that you keep on expectorating sputum. This is because if it accumulates, it will cause infection and pneumonia.
You need to consult your pulmonologist and get treatment and discuss regarding the surgical options available if it is localized to a single lobe of lung.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
