Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have several small hard bumps in my genital area. Not blisters, sores or warts. I think they may be caused by shaving eith a dull blade. They look - feel like an inflamed hair follicle. Is it safe to put Neosporin on them, or is there another otc cream that s better?
To treat bumps in the pubic area, take care of your hygiene. Take bath everyday, change all your clothes daily. Wear loose fitting soft cotton clothes. Do not shave the affected area, do not use perfumed products. Do not touch, do not scratch. Do not pick ingrown hairs. Avoid sex for a couple of days. Use medicated soap. You can apply ointment hydrocortisone in the area affected if its itchy. Applying ointment Soframycin or Neosporin can also give relief.
However, genital warts can be mistaken for bumps in the pubic area. They are caused by HPV, a sexually transmitted infection. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, get STD tests done. If report is positive you may need antibiotics / antivirals, etc.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
