How To Treat Burning Sensation In Lower Back And Thighs Inspite Of Taking Gabapentin?
Dr.--I am a 73 yr. old woman with severe lower back and burning down the side of my thigh. I can only stand a short time as back starts to get worse and cannot walk far. Mayo Neurosurgeon told me to lose weight and surgery would be considered.Slow process.... I take Gabapentin 300mg., 3 capsules 4x da. Helps very little Surgery is never a sure answer with backs. Is there a Stemcell process available and safe? This back issue has been with me 2 plus years . Thank you.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
With the dose of Gabapentin you are taking the presence of symptoms indicate severity of nerve compression. You can try physiotherapy along it with result would be eminent after a couple of months. Addition of B12 supplement may help. With no change in prescribed time. You would have to try surgery (spinal one needs follow up with physiotherapy and nutritional supplements to avoid recurrence of course with expert advice). Stem cell option to be confirmed with an expert surgeon.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
