How To Treat Chronic Anal Fissure Leading To Pain?
Hi. I am a healthy 24 year old female. I recently starting developing chronic anal fissures about once a month. They weren t a big deal because they would go away after a day or so. A few months ago though the pain got really bad and would not go away. The doctor told me it was a fissure and prescribed suppositories which helped immediately. I recently am experiencing this pain again and today I noticed a bump between my vagina and anus. It isn t painful but about the size of a jelly bean. Is this associated with an anal fissure? I started taking the suppositories again but they don t seem to be helping as quickly as last time. Thanks!

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Your symptoms suggest infected fissure. It needs medication (antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, stool softeners, pile ointment before and after defecation). Some cases need surgical treatment for fissure after infection is controlled. Please consult an anorectal surgeon.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
