How To Treat Chronic Cough And Expectoration Of Sputum?
I am 72 years old. I suffer already of cough and expectoration of sputum a few years already. In the last period ten months the phenomena became more troublesome. The cough is especially caused by the need to expectorate sputum and may happen day or night. The sputum aspect was transparent but lastly is yellow. No temperature and health status is o.k. The previous radiological examinations showed nothing special. I would appreciate your advice. Adrian
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have chronic cough and expectoration of sputum which seems to be due to chest infection/ chronic upper respiratory tract infection. Need not to panic about it. I would suggest you to take cough expectorants along with nasal sprays and do warm saline gargles. Avoid oily and sharp food. Drink plenty of fluids. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should get X-ray chest done along with pulmonary function tests to check level on infection and start treatment after proper prescription. You should apply mist humidifiers in room. You should take antibiotic Amoxicillin in combination with antiallergic medication such as Levocetirizine.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
