Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have chronic nail fungus (for years). Have tried all topicals without success. Presently taking double dose itraconazole. Have you any experience with this problem? Also, what can you tell me about Trosyd cream. I used it overseas, but it is not available in U.S.
Hello! Thank you for asking HCM! I understand your concern! Answer: The treatment of onychomycosis (nail fungus) depends on the clinical type, the number of affected nails, and the severity of it. Topical treatments alone are generally unable to cure onychomycosis because of insufficient nail plate penetration. The best solution is a combination of systemic and topical treatment because increases the cure rate. But the rate of recurrence is high. Itraconazole tablet, is a good choice. Trosyd cream is tioconazole,so you can find another medicine with the same component but with another commercial name.
