General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my surgical experience, many of the pediatric patients do have loaded colon with impacted stool due to severe constipation, which does not respond to oral medications as magnesium citrate and others.

Following measures prove best for such situation:
- If the consultant surgeon has confirmed hard stool by per rectal examination then

@ Manual evacuation of hard stool with gloves on hand by expert surgeon
@ Soap water enema
@ Glycerine suppositories (pediatric dose)

However, individual case is always different and rest causes of acute constipation have to be ruled out via expert consultant before head.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
