How To Treat Constipation As A Side Effect Of Tramadol?
I am a 72 years old woman. I had a fall nearly 3 weeks ago & have very bruised ribs.I have been given Tmamadol -one 3 times a day.Since then I am suffering costipation.Have tried prunes ,lactulose, apples pears, fibogel with very result. Please help me.
I am so sorry to hear about this constipation which is a well documented side effect of this medication. Each time you go on tramadal for a long time, you should systematically take a laxative to prevent constipation. Taking it only when you have constipation would not help. Make it a routine drug for as long as you take tramadol. I often put my patients on 15ml twice daily and if it proves unable to control the constipation, I associate bisacodyl 15mg at bed time to it. This should be accompanied by measures like eating enough vegetables, fibers and fruits, drinking uch water and regular physical exercise.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for clarifications if need be. Thanks
