Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello,My baby is 7 weeks old and today for the first time he cried for half an hour non stop, I was thinkingaybe it s a colic. Yesterday and today he tried to poop but nothing but a dirty diaper and he s pushing really hard so I thought constipated. Any thoughts doctor?
I don't know if you are breastfeeding the baby or giving him formula. From what you are telling me, I think you do not need to worry about. Babies in that age can go till 7 days without pooping and still not be constipated. For sure not if he is breastfeeding but also doesn't happen often even if he is formula feeding.
They need to learn how to pass the stool, so that is why it looks like they are making a lot of effort to poop. You do not give anything else other then milk (breast or formula). Try to give him multiple times per day belly time, and also move his legs in a bicycle motion.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Klarida Papaqako, General & Family Physician
