Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How To Treat Difficulty In Exhaling While Lying Down?
If I m lying on my back and I am just about to fall asleep, I can t exhale. I can inhale just fine, but exhaling is very slow if at all. It feels like something is blocking the exhaling. It also feels like I have mucus in my throat. I don t have a cold or anything. This has been going on for a few months now.
I have gone through your query and understood your concerns.
The problems you are facing might be related to: - sleep apnea - obstruction of respiratory tract - bad position while sleeping
I suggest to consult: - ENT specialist to rule out obstruction of upper respiratory pathways - Pulmonologist and neurologist to rule out sleep apnea or other lung problems. - GI specialist to rule out GERD
If everything is ok, then, you should change position while sleeping: - do not lay on your back - take 1 more pillow to sleep at night - have your dinner at least 5 hours before going to bed.
Hope it was of help!
