How To Treat Dry And Flaky Skin On Face?

The skin on my face is really dry and flaky. It has been this way for a few months. I have thyroid issues but my levels indicate hyperthyroidism. The symptom checker mentioned hypothyroidism. Is there anything I can do to alleviate this? I use oil of olay lotion twice a day. I recently had blood work done and am waiting on results,

Hello,
Yes, unfortunately thyroid disease can cause dry skin. Here are some tips that might help:
1. Try to use soaps that are not perfumed, have dyes, or antibacterial agents in them.
2. Consider using soap only on the hands, groin and armpits.
3. Soaks in the tub are good, but avoid water that is too hot. Limit tub soaks to once a day.
4. After soak use a moisturizer applied to the skin while the skin is moist to hold the moisture in. A simple formula is to mix Vaseline/Petrolatum 50-50 with an inexpensive cream. (Creams or lotions are usually too light to hold moisture in effectively on their own and Vaseline by itself is often too greasy).
I hope this helps you. Best wishes for your health.
