Sir, I am 65 years old. I have been moderately taking alcohol (150ml per day) almost regularly for the last three decades. I am a diabetic taking a tablet "Glycomet GP2" every day morning and my fasting sugar level is 120. I have not been taking any alcohol for the past one month and tested my blood to ascertain the liver functioning and found my SGPT is 104 and SGOT is 44, which were normal , during my last lest , three months back. Is it a serious health problem needing urgent medical attention? Or can it be corrected be any change in my life style? My email ID: YYYY@YYYY
Hello, Consumption of regular alcohol should be stopped as alcohol not only damages liver as it is being reflected by high levels of SGPT, but it also reduces the effectiveness if insulin resulting in uncontrolled blood sugar levels. You must get your PP levels also done to know the exact status and then accordingly dose of your anti diabetic meication can be adjusted. Along with medicines, observe proper dietary control,do regular exercises and moderate your alcohol intake. Thanks
