Thanks for your query .As you mention that your fiance has exfoliate dermatitis and shedding skin.Well exfoliate dermatitis is peeling of skin over large area of body .When skin become red it is also called erthyroderma. There can be many cause for exfoliate dermatitis like disorder of shedding of skin cells too quickly ,chronic disease like autoimmune disease ,eczema,allergic reaction from drug like penicillin and some cancer like leukemia can also be one of the cause ( but rare) In case of exfoliate dermatitis patient should be hospitalized because shedding of skin will lead to malnutrition , loss of large amount of fluid and low blood volume.patient should be treated with intravenous fluid and nutrition ,oral antihistamine drugs should be given and apply topical steroids creams for severe inflammation. Photo therapy and ultraviolet therapy will also be helpful,antibiotics should be given to prevent skin infection. Its good that your doctor order biopsy to rule out the condition.Although it doesn t cause cancer but sometime skin cancer could be possible cause of exfoliate dermatitis ,but its also rare case.
