How To Treat Gum Pain Caused Due To Tight Dentures?

I just got new immediate dentures, my dentist told me when I came to after the iv sedative that they are very tight. I am having a terrible time getting them out to rinse. It hurts a lot along to tops of my gums on the outside, like it's scraping. Will it hurt to wait the 72 hours until I go into the denture clinic to have them realigned, and have him take them out?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns....

As per your complain it is correct that when you wear immediate dentures you are advised to wear it continuously day and night for 3 days to prevent swelling and bleeding post extraction and should only remove once to clean it, but in case if there is a soreness over gums there can be some sharp points over the tissue surface of dentures and it is rubbing over the gums causing inflammation and pain..
You need not to worry and of possible continue wearing it for 72 hours but in case if there is unbearable condition you should consult your dentist and get evaluated and get the sharp points over the denture trimmed and smoothed so that you can wear it with ease..
You should apply numbing gel over the sore area like Oragel so that the area gets numb and there is no pain..
Doing cold compresses from over the lip for 15 to 20 minutes at a stretch and then leaving for the same time and doing it again can relieve..
If there is excess Inflammation steroid based oral paste like Kenalog can be applied..
For pain you can take OTC painkiller like Ibuprofen( Advil or Motrin) only if needed..

Hope this information helps..
