Hi,
Hair loss can develop gradually over the years or can happen abruptly. Hair loss can be permanent or temporary. There are many reasons for hair loss. So, find out exact underlying causes for hair loss is the main priority before starting treatment. The most common cause of hair loss is hereditary
female pattern baldness. You may have this type of hair loss, if you have a family history of baldness. Certain sex hormones can trigger
hereditary hair loss. So, s. estrogen, progesterone etc should be done to exclude the causes. Discontinuing the use of birth control pills also may cause hormonal imbalance. Medical conditions that can cause hair loss such as
thyroid disease, autoimmune diseases like
alopecia areata, scalp infections like ringworm, diseases that cause scarring like lichen planus, lupus etc; medications used to treat cancer, HTN, arthritis, depression, heart problems etc; physical or
emotional shock like death in the family, extreme weight loss, high fever, major surgery etc; anemia,
nutritional deficiency like protein, vitamin C, biotin etc; psychological stress, anxiety etc. Some investigations like CBC, RBS,
thyroid function tests, biopsy of the skin of scalp should be undergone to detect the causes for hair loss and then treat them accordingly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
