I am a retired NHS Consultant. From age 57 a marathon and ultramarathon runner. Now I am 65 y.o. and very fit. On 22 Oct whilst running a very tough cross country marathon at 25km tripped over and fell sustaining head injury and many other abrassions. Finished marathon inspite of the predicament. Now have swollen and painful forehead , black eye and the abrassions appear to be infected. Due to fly to India tomorrow for an active hiking and trekking holiday.
Tend to bleed due to problems with clotting (? liver damage due to antiTB treatment and other toxins many years ago). Should I be concerned regarding possible chronic subdural and cancel my trip? What precautions should be considered whilst going to a hot and very humid place in these circumstances?

Emergency Medicine Specialist, Dr. David Dupy's Response
Thank you for your question
In my opinion i would not go on your trip until you have had a CT of your head to rule out a bleed.
Also, they could look at your abrasions and make sure they are not infected
If you are having any symptoms of a concussion, ie. headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, etc I would cancel your trip because you need to be sleeping and resting in a dark quiet environment
I would be concerned about you getting dehydrated which could make your concussion worse, so I would make sure you stay hydrated and be sure to rest if you go
Hope this helps, Dr Dupy
