hi am 3o years old and am ttc for about 3 years but my prolactin level is high ,its 36 .Am having a capsule referred by my doc .my husband semen analysis is ok wanted to know is it normal to have milk discharge from my nipples and what food should i consume to decrease my prolactin level
Hello dear, thanks for posting your query. High prolactin levels ate caused by excessive secretion of prolactin by pituitary gland, a small pea sized gland in the brain or sometimes it can be raised even when your thyroid hormones are not functioning properly. And usually, it is treated medically using drugs like bromocriptine, cabergoline and others unless your prolactin levels are too high to merit a surgical approach. High prolactin levels manifest as milk discharge from nipple and menstrual disturbances. Once your prolactin levels are treated by drugs these usually go away. No particular diet is required for its treatment. Also I suggest that you get your thyroid hormone evaluated ( serum TSH and free T4) to see if that is causing your prolactin to go high ( an increase in prolactin hormone can be caused by thyroid abnormalities a lot of times ) Do consider meeting a fertility expert for assistance as the chance of spontaneous conception after three years of attempt to conception could be less than 5% per cycle. Hope this helps. Take care.
