Hi, My mother has been unable to sleep properly until the last week. She reported some heaviness in her head which went away after she washed her hair. We checked her BP which was slightly high(she has had panic attacks in the past) and while her BP was being measured, she got little nervous which increased her heart rate sa well......Now her bp is normal - but she is definitely lacking sleep and aslso she has gas problems
hello,,, first of all I would like to inform you that head heaviness is not a specific clue for any disorder. There must be some underlying problem for insomnia. As you have described your mother had history of panic attacks in past, I would like to evaluate details of those attacks, duration of illness at that time, treated or untreated, how was treatment response etc. As panic attack is included in type of anxiety disorder, there is most probably anxiety is linked with insomnia. I would like to know your mother's age, evaluate her mood throughout day, any stressful event ongoing etc. As anxiety is best managed with low dose zolpidem / benzodiazepines / ssri whichever is most appropriate would be finalised only after knowing above details. Thanks and good luck for your mother's health...
