hi
i have gone through your considerations

if i were your treating doctor i would have done
1-erythrocyte sedimentation rate and c-reactive protein to look for any chronic illness.
2-after these tests i would suggest rheumatoid factor test
3-prescribe analgesics such as aceclofenac 100mg or diclofenac for 3 days
4-glucoronic acid substitutes such as jointcare for 5 months
5-i would have suggested to lose weight in case of overweight patient
6-application of ice or hot fomentation whichever soothes the joints.
7-refrain from prolonged sitting and move your joint regularly when prolong sitting or standing is inevitable.
8-calcium and vitamin d supliments.

in my opinion you should visit a rheumatologist or orthopedic surgeon to carry out xray of affected joints and blood tests mentioned above.

hope you get the answer
your further questions will be appreciated
wish you good health
