How To Treat Intractable Hiccups?
My 94 year old father has had intractable hiccups for two weeks. We have tried Chlorpromazine, Baclofen, Metoclopramide, and an anti acid medicine. Still they persist! What would you suggest we try next? Haloperidol? Phenytoin? Sodium Valproate? Intravenous Lidocaine? Help! He is going down hill fast. He can t sleep and is about to give up on living.

As per my clinical experience, as the multiple oral formulations are not working, intractable hiccup needs following molecules:
- Intravenous Ondancetron or Granicetron
- Intravenous proton pump inhibitor as Pantoprazole
- Supportive intravenous fluids to correct electrolyte imbalance with Ringer Lactate or Isolyte M solution
