Hello! Temporary fillings are done during a root canal in between the visits. The basic purpose of these are to prevent contamination of the tooth being treated. Contamination could be due to food and liquid intake or any unhealthy bacteria.
In every visit the dentist ensures that the tooth is germ free and places a temporary. Patient is advised not to eat or drink for half an hour, this sets the temporary filling. Although its not an emergency if temporary comes out but i would advise that you visit your dentist at the earliest.
