Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Good evening, I have been having lower leg pains (both legs) since yesterday. The pain is quite severe where I have difficulty walking. I have not been in an accident or injured myself; however, I did have a bad cold and allergy and my doctor prescribed an antibiotic. WHat is your recommendation?
Joint and muscle pain including leg pain after bad cold or allergy may itself be a symptom of allergy or it may be due to some co-existing disease of joint, muscles or bones. Allergies may be more during spring due to pollens of flowers becoming more prevalent during this time. Also, allergies are more common during cold and damp weather.
To differentiate allergy as a cause of joint pain or due to a co-existing disease, we may try a course of antiallergics like cetirizine etc. If it is due to allergy, then symptoms will be relieved with this course. Simple OTC analgesics like Tylenol or Ibuprofen etc. may be tried for symptomatic relief of pain. Atmospheric allergies can be minimized with use of humidifiers, air purifiers, filters and air-conditioners etc.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
