Doctor, i am 41 year old female. I have a small lump in my neck. As per the advise of doctor i have done the Thyroid Function Test and it is normal. However, the ultrasound results show that i have multinodulat goiter especially a big one on the left lobe 1.67x1.73 and in right lobe 0.73 cm. The surgeon is advising for surgery. What is your opinion? is there any complication if i do not do a surgery?? can this be controlled through food? what kind of foods to be taken?
Hi Multinodular goitre could be due to drugs, iodine deficiency, certain foods, hormone deficiency. If left as such it causes cosmetic problem,Obstruction to breathing or eating, both hypo and hyperthyroidism. Rarely it is tumour.you can take iodine in therapeuric doses to reduce the size.
