How To Treat Muscle Spasms On Back Radiating Towards Hip And Leg?
I had half hip replacement December 5th and at the same time I fell I broke my left arm in 3 places. I am doing great relative to healing of my injuries but as a result of the fall, surgery, and re-awakening nerves, etc. I am experiencing muscle spasms on the left side of my back and it radiates down my hip into my leg. My surgeon has released me and will no longer prescribe Norco 10-325. I am only taking it twice a day because I can manage the pain with its help. I am at a loss as to how I am going to manage without it. Tylenol does not help by itself. Is there anything you can suggest to alleviate this?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
It seems to be lumber spondylosis pressing the leg nerve causing pain like sciatica. X-ray of lumber spine would confirm this. Treatment plan can be prescribed according to degree of spinal affection and compression on the nerve. Specific treatment (medicines, physiotherapy, surgery are as per need) would help in releasing nerve pain to help you.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
