Hi,

This drug is a steroid, sometimes given in severe neurocardiogenic syncope, as it helps to retain salt inside our body, thereby increasing BP and preventing postural hypotension.

Regarding safety in pregnancy, this drug belongs to category C(routinely not used, but can be taken under supervision when definitely indicated). So if your doctor thinks it is necessary, it is better to take as per advise, as recurrent syncopal attacks itself can cause harm to baby from reduced blood flow.

Meanwhile, take enough fluids (salted fluids like ORS solution or salted rice water are better) and avoid getting up all of a sudden from sitting/lying down position or prolonged standing / walking

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
