What do you recommend for recovering from a herniated disc (L-3) with referred pain and numbness in right hip to right knee? One month into this ...pain has lessened immensely, currently need no pain medication but would like to prevent further episodes.

Hi,
To prevent pinched nerve pressure go for regular physiotherapy like back extension exercises.
This will prevent contact of nerve causing irritation with herniated disc.
Avoid more bending from back.
Avoid lifting weight.
Avoid squatting position.
Take B1, B6, B12 supplements.
Ok and take care.
