Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My transvagibal scan detected one anechoic ovarian cyst measuring 6 cm by 3 cm in size. My right ovary has a smaller cyst with 2 cm diameter and that is also anechoic. I am 50 years old, Do I need suregery or conservative treatment will do. My CA 125 result shows 4.5 when the upper limit is 37.
hi, The cyst on the left ovary is little larger. But ultrasound features are not suggestive of any malignancy and your CA125 is also Normal. So its most likely a benign cyst. In order to decide whether you need surgery or not depends on your symptoms (if any present) and also a history about your periods and menopause. A repeat scan after sometime will be helpful to find out if there is a significant increase in size of the cyst. If there is then, surgery might be advised to you based on the decision of your OBG doctor. However, these days with modern technology, a clear benign cyst like yours can be drained with just ultrasound guided needle aspiration. All you would feel is an injection prick. So nothing to worry if you are on a contant follow-up with a doctor.
