How To Treat Pain Caused Due To Stent In Urethra For Stones?

I have an 8mm stone, had a stent put in on Feb. 27th and had it blasted on April 15th. 4 x-rays later the stone has not passed. It is in the urethra. Because of the stent, I have no pain, but the stent is causing such pain like I have a hot poker iron in my vagina. I am scheduled for another blasting on May 27th. I m not able to do anything because of this problem. Is this normal? My urologist says all his patients go back to work the next day. I haven t been out of the house except for my x-rays and dr. appts. since Feb. 27th. Should I be worried?

Hello,

Post ureteral stent pain is seen in many patients. To reduce pain, regular NSAIDs like ibuprofen would help relieve pain. Acetaminophen can be used thrice daily to relieve pain. Avoidance of physical exertion may be advised.

Every person is different. Just because someone could go to office the next day of stent placement, you don't need to be worried. Some people experience more pain than others. Please try analgesics and rest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
