How To Treat Pain In Finger Joints?

I am female 70 yrs weight 57kgs height 1.65, with family history of heart problems. Doctor prescribed Aspavor June last year to reduce cholesterol from 6.5 to 4.2. Side effects are very swollen and painful finger joints. Dr has prescribed Flexior for the joint pain, but this is not helping. I am strict with diet and do housework, gardening and visit the gym 3times a week. Joint problem is very debilitating. Have you any advice?

hello,
i can understand your concern.
i would like to know the dosage of atorvastatin(aspavor) you have been using.
i would require the complete lipid profile report.
total cholesterol of 4.2mmol/lit is well within the normal range.
atorvastatin does produce arthralgia, myalgia, muscle spasm.
i would suggest an xray of the hand involved along with serum uric acid acid levels just to rule out other causes of the joint pains.
if the xrays and blood test excludes other causes, i would suggest stoppage of atorvastatin.
since you are regular with your physical activity and your diet is also strict, i would monitor for the cholesterol levels after its stoppage.
depending on the need this can be started again.
a low dose aspirin 75mg once daily is also advised if you donot have any bleeding risks.
kindly get back to us with the reports.
feel free to ask further queries.
thanks for choosing HCM.
