How To Treat Painful And Swollen Gum While On Medication For Tooth Infection?
I was diagnosed as a case left lower wisdom tooth infection after an x ray my tooth is straight but gum was my painful n swollen. I have been taking augmentin(amoxiclave) 1g for 3 days now. Swelling have reduced but not completely gone. What should i do now
Thanks for your query . The gum swelling you mention in query occur due to collection of pus under the gum which comes fro tooth infection.
As you mention that your are already antibiotics for tooth infection . It will also work on your gum so need not to take any extra medicine . Rather continue it for 5 days .
Beside that i would suggest you to :-
- Do warm saline rinses 3-4 times a day , the are very effective inreducing the swelling .
If condition doesn't resolve in 5-7 days then consult oral surgeon. Doctor may give you stronger antibiotics , drain the pus by giving incision or may extract the wisdom tooth if infection is still there .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
