How To Treat Painful Defaecation With Blood And Mucus?

Sir, I had painful defaecation with blood and mucous for the past one week. Consulted GP. He advised to apply Ruticool ointment and smuth laxative twice a day. Other antibiotics administered are Cefadroxil 500g and Acetaminophen tablets. I found little relief. Can you advise other medications to overcome the problem.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
There are various causes of painful defaecation with blood and mucus like haemorrhoids (piles), fissures, polyps, peptic ulcers or cancer.

If you have mild bleeding and you are feeling better (relief) with your doctor's treatment my humble advice is that just continue your treatment and do regular follow up to your doctor.

If the bleeding is heavy, consult a good surgeon immediately. You have to go through some investigations like Sigmoidoscopy or Colonoscopy to determine the possible cause of bleeding.

The treatment would be based on the diagnosis.
All the best and take care.
