My grandson who is 2yrs and 5 months was diagnosed with toxic synovitis on December 1, 2014. The pain and limping lasted about 2 weeks before he could walk again normally. Two days ago my daughter was down on the pond with the children for about half an hour while the older two boys skated and the little one played. He fell down a lot, but he was bundled and so he was cushioned in his falls. This is the longest he has been out doors this winter and think he may have gotten a little chill although it was only about 0 degrees Celsius. In any case we recalled that in the evening he was a bit cranky, but no fever or anything. The next morning he woke up calling his mom, then he came out crying and walking, clearly, in a lot of pain. We have taken him in to be checked and xrays were done. They did not show anything. We are wondering if what he is experiencing may be a recurrence of what he had last winter. The doctor was a bit skeptical, as it seems to be too much of a coincidence that it should reoccur almost a year to the day of the first bout. We are also wondering, if it is a recurrence, if a chill might be a stress that would cause a reccurence. So far before the other day, his time outdoors this winter has been no more than 10-15 minutes. We think, that although he did not complain of being cold, that his core temperature may have dropped.
