How To Treat Pink Eye And Painful Ears In A Kid?

My five year had a doctors appointment yesterday for pink eye. The doctor checked her ears, nose, throat, etc. everything looked good. She doesn t seem to have a fever. But today she has been complaining about her ears. She keeps saying that both her ears hurt. Could it be her molars coming in since everything looked good yesterday? What should we do for the pain? Thank you.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The commonest reasons for ear pain in a child are one of the following:
Since the pain is in both the ears the cause may be related to inflammation and/or fluid development in middle ear due to enlarged adenoids. This causes inflammation and infection to travel to middle ears trough Eustachian tubes.
Other causes can be related to self cleaning or instilling something in ears, wax that has swollen up due to water while bathing and so on.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Take the child to your Doctor or in ER for re-evaluation so that ENT Endoscopy will know the cause and thus possible to have specific treatment as per the findings. She may need a painkiller with anti-inflammatory properties in proper doses as per the weight. Antibiotic and decongestant as needed.
Eyes drops for the red eyes.
Do not instill anything in ears without Doctor's prescription.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
