Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I have been diagnosed with plantar wart on feet. There was only one before, however, its spreading upto 5 in left feet and about the same no. in right feet but not much visible. The doctor have told me that there is no other treatment other then removing it with laser surgery. But, since wart is virus, I doubt it will show up again. Please advise if surgical removal is needed and its the only way to treat warts. Or if there are some kind of medication? Thanks in advance
Warts can be treated with different methods and less invasive methods are preferred if they are many in number. You are right, because it is a virus it might come back, no matter how well procedures are done. Few other options that I would recommend are: 1- salicilic acid cream. this can be applied every night before bed on the warts for 7-10 nights. with this you have to be careful to apply only on the warts and if the surrounding skin gets white and wrinkled or is painful you have to stop it. 2- liquid nitrogen- is a very common procedure and generally not painful, you might need several sessions to remove the warts. 3- removal with hyphricator\burning (this is generally painful and I would not much use it on the foot) 4- the last procedures are the surgery but you have to make sure you have consumed other options first and be aware of how invasive the procedure is and the risk if recurrences.
Hope this is helpful and answers to your question.
Best Regards,
Dr Antoneta
