Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a red line below my bottom lip this is the second time it has been there and I don't know what it is. I lick my lips occasionally but I never do it too often I do it about 10-15 times a day. The last time I had it, it was there for about a week and a half. It is really dry and follows my lip line and it also makes the lip line of my top lip really dry. Please help me it is ugly and I hate it.
Hi.. I have gone through your query and can understand your health concerns..
As per your complain the red line and dryness of lip line of both upper and lower lips indicate that do to licking of lips there has been drying of lips as well as the red line can be due to inflammation of the area either by injury by teeth or due to dryness of lips as lip sucking leads to sucking up of the moisture from lips which leads to dryness and inflammation..
1. You should apply a thick coat of Vaseline or Beeswax containing lip balms as they help in lubrication as well as locking of moisture of lips.. 2. Apply 2.5% Hydrocortisone cream over the red line to reduce inflammation and initiate healing.. 3. Cold packs can also help.. 4. Avoid sucking of lips as it is not a good habit for lip health..
