Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My baby is 5 1/2 months. She s been having a runny nose for a week now. She cannot breathe well even after I try clearing her nose. She keeps breathing from her mouth. I want to give her Fenistil, but everything I read recommeneds that I dont because its harmful for infants, and that it will go away on it s own! Is that true? And is it bad if I dont give her anything? Will it go down and affect her chest, cause she s caughing a little! Thank You
Please check whether your baby is having high temperature or not. If temperature is there with cough or breathing difficulty if could be an acute viral infection-Acute bronchiolitis which causes inflammation and congestion in small airways. Its viral infection and no antibiotics will work. this would be subsided by itself in a few days, but you can give your baby nasomist nasal spray or nasal saline drops .baby should be hydrated so give plenty of water or fluids. If condition does not improve even after that i would recommend you to consult pediatrician.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Abdul Hamid Mavli, General & Family Physician
