General & Family Physician 's  Response

Good afternoon, I am Dr. Farzana - your online physician for today.

I realize you are anxious and worried for your son which is completely understandable but I think it's important you understand that epilepsy (fits) is a completely treatable condition and people live very normal lives when they follow regular treatment. Valprain is a very effective medicine which will aid your son in living an attack-free life. If you ensure he continues taking the medication, his neurologist might even be able reduce the dosage later on in his life. Further, with regard to your question on removal of the 'scar' on his brain - an injury to brain tissue is best treated with medication. Surgery is not performed as it does not provide a cure and in fact would probably do more harm than good.

I'd like to reiterate here that epilepsy is a completely treatable condition which can be dealt with very well by regular medication and a healthy lifestyle.

Regards.

Hello,

I can understand your concern. Your son was experiencing too many seizures before that are decreased to once in 3 or 4 months. This is due to the medicine Valprain he is taking. If he continues this medicine regularly, the seizure incidences will surely keep reducing and he can lead a normal life as any other student his age. His studies will not get affected due to this.

The condition can be well controlled with medicines. Removal of scar by surgery will not be a good idea as brain surgeries always have a risk of causing paralysis and other severe complications that are not worth taking in your son's case. Valprain is a pretty safe medicine to take life long without any risk of severe adverse effects.

However, I would advise regular visit of the treating doctor for follow up of the scar in the brain and dose adjustments.

I hope this answer helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish your son good health and bright future!

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
