How To Treat Serum Sickness Caused Due To Patch Test?

Two years ago my allergist did a patch test using various haircolor dyes and developers. After 16 of the 48 hrs of the time I was suppose to leave the patch on I developed a fever rash and swelling of several joints. After numerous test it was concluded that I developed serum sickness. I have not been around chemicals/ hair dyes since. I retired my Beauty license and found a new job. My question is two years later could I possibly try to color my hair using organic color. I am scared to perform another patch test and have the prolonged contact on my skin. I never reacted like this when I just colored my hair and left on 20 minutes. Please advice. Thanks in advance

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
I understand your concern.
serrum sickness is an allergic test .. & usually disappears after removal of causative factor.
So, your problem should disappear within 4-5 days of removal of patch. You can take anti allergic pill like Cetrizine in addition to hasten the process.
If it does not/ The signs of allergy are grave , you need a physicians advise. It is managed after necessary investigations by corticosteroids ( oral/ injectable ), anti inflammatory medicines. Use of Plasmaphoresis is known to help.
Thanks.
