How To Treat Severe Chronic Cough In A 5 Years Old Child?
Hello,
Afor weeks now, my 5 yo daughter constantly starts coughing while drinking and earing, and even while not eating and drinking. She says her saliva causes her to cough. The coughing is constant throughout the day and night, no more than 10 min apart
Thanks for writing to health care magic. I can understand your concern.
There are several causes for cough. Cough can be because of asthma or tuberculosis or foreign body aspiration or infection of respiratory tract etc. If there is family history of bronchial asthma along with allergies or the child has allergies like allergic conjunctivitis or allergic rhinitis etc we think in terms of bronchial asthma. Your doctor may find wheezing on examination. If there is evening rise of temperature along with weight loss associated with cough then we think of tuberculosis. You should consult your doctor at the earliest for a complete physical examination. Your doctor may order certain investigations based on the physical examination findings. Further management depends on the diagnosis made. So consult your doctor for a examination to identify the cause.
