How To Treat Severe Hip Pain With History Of Having A Back Surgery?

My 65 year old husband had a stint put in last Dec because of a 95% blockage in the LAD, and he has donee fine until the last couple of weeks, and especially tonight. He was felt a little sick on the stomach so he tried to stand up and get to the bed. He fell back into the chair. In a short while I was able to help him to bed where rested 5-10 minutes. H then tried to get up to go to the bathroom and couldn t get up-too dizzy. He thought he might need to eat something so I made a peanut butter/jelly sandwich and filled a glass of milk. He then wanted cookies (My husband is not much of a sweets eater and is a good weight for his health.) The cookies seemed to settly him down but he wouldn t rest until he brushed his teeth bedside and brought him a urinal. He didn t trust himself that much. He IS borderline diabetic and his glucose measured 171.The rest of the story: SERIOUS back surgery on 5-6 (including laminectomy) and recovered well from that finally after about 8-9 months. Today he was playing with our visiting out-of-state grandchildren and occupying them while mom and dad packed to leave. Regretfully, in a game of kee-the-baloon-in-the-air in the small mudroom of our house, my husband tripped and fell onto his behind, andd is now pretty stove up and sore-complaining of hip pain.I know this is TMI but I m worried to go to sleep. Should I stay away and watch him. I m worried about the dizzyness to the point of blacking out, or almost blacking out. THe second question is of a different but same concern. We are scheduled to leave next week for a 6-month-planned and exciting vacation to the Rockies next week. Should I insist he get thoroughly get checked out before we leave?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, at an age of 65, one has high chances of osteoporosis and stress fractures incidence. The mode of injury with sequence of disability may be related to:
Possible slipping of acetabular head over femur neck
Fracture neck of femur
Other ligament sprain or strain

I would request to get a basic check up with an ortho surgeon and get an X-ray of the hip joints for best guidelines.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
