How To Treat Severe Lower Back Pain After A Tailbone Fracture?

I went to the chiropractor because I am experiencing sever pain in my lower back/tailbone area. When I sit the pain in my buttocks is almost unbearable. Amway he had x-rays done and when the came back be said I was an anomaly. My tail bone is split vertically. He said it was like my body was trying to make another vertebrae. What is this and how do I get relief from the pain? The chiropractor worked on it a few time but he pain continues. Do you know what this is and how I can get relief? Would I have to get surgery? Any help is greatly appreciated.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history about having severe pain in lower back, tailbone area, X-ray showed anomaly of split bones, Chiropractor working on it but no results, pain continued.
With the history you have provided I would advise you the following:
Consult an Orthopedic Surgeon for proper clinical evaluation, examination and investigations like MRI scan of the affected area so that any associated problem related to discs, nerves can also be detected along with problems in bony structures.
A course of appropriate anti-inflammatory medicines with painkiller property.
Sitting in a warm tub.
Muscle relaxants if there is associated muscle spasm.
Oral steroids if no diabetes.
Surgery is usually not needed if the medical conservative management solves your problems.
Surgery is done only if indicated.
Take laxatives to have soft bowel movements.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
