How To Treat Severe Throat Inflammation?

Hello, my daughter has severe throat inflammation. What could be causing it. The GI doctor says that she does not have acid reflux, the ENT doc said that it could be allergy. We got the blood allergy test done and it came negative. She is doing gluten free diet. So what is the cause and what to do to reduce inflammation?

1. As the symptoms are there for a week now, consult an ENT Doctor [or get a second opinion] for a strep test and for further examination and management:

i. He will inspect the throat with a good torch and tongue depressor to look out for following possibilities:

- whether tonsils are red & inflamed with tender tonsillar lymph nodes below the angle of mandible [acute tonsillitis]
- whether entire throat i.e. posterior pharyngeal wall is inflamed [acute pharyngitis]
- are there inflamed rough granules over the posterior pharyngeal wall [granular pharyngitis]

ii. whatever be the cause, management of them remain the same:
. steam inhalation: 3-4 times a day.
. warm salt water gargles.
. voice rest and rest at home.
. take hot drinks to sip, avoid fried foods, cold drinks, ice cream, oily food
. Antibiotic, in either case, would be azithromycin/erythromycin and syrup ibuprofen and paracetamol for symptomatic relief from pain and fever.

PS. The choice of antibiotic will vary from doctor to doctor and from locality to locality
