Thank you for your query.
I am sorry to hear that your friend is terminally ill.
Liver has many functions which support blood clotting, digestion, protein/ carbohydrate/ fat
metabolism to name a few.
When the liver has been damaged beyond help, bleeding, obstruction of blood flow through the liver can cause severe breathing difficulty.
One way is to remove these fluids manually or by forcing it out, by medications, through the urine. She may need blood transfusions as well.
Lever failure is commonly associated with
kidney and
heart failure compounding the problem.
Liver cancer is a possibility and if it has spread (metastasized) to the lung or other organs, prognosis is poor.
Ventilatory support may prolong life but with no hope for full recovery if multiple organ damage is involved.
Liver transplant may help if the other organs (heart, kidney and lungs) are optimally Functional and can be done soon.
Hope she has options. please discuss in detail with her doctor.
please let me know if this information is helpful.
