Thank you for the question. I would like to have more details regarding your health issue.

Do you develop cough during exposure to chemicals?
Do you develop wheeze?
Do you have shortness of breath?
How many episodes do you get per month?
Did you get Pulmonary function test done?

The best way to reduce your symptoms would be avoiding the exposure. However, many times it may not be possible. Minimizing the exposure with use of mask, avoid persons who smoke will help.

complete blood count, absolute eosinophil count is required for diagnosis.
also chest radiograph and Pulmonary function test.

If only cough is present, still cough variant asthma is a possibility. If you are diagnosed with asthma, we classify as well controlled, moderately well controlled and poorly controlled asthma. Treatment depends on the staging.

Short acting bronchodilators and inhalational steroids may be suitable for you. If the episodes are frequent then oral steroids are advised. If there is evidence of infection, then antibiotics are required. Also other medications like mast cell stabilizers and levocetrizine may be added.

Rarely if severe professional change may be advised. I hope that my answer helps you.
