How To Treat Swelling And Pain In Knee Caused Due To Injury?

Hi, my name is Tia, I ve had an injury to my knee for more than 6 months now, and it constantly gives out and makes me fall, the swelling and pain is very bad. It hurts to walk or bend my leg. The pain is in back of the knee and it feels like a constant pull. And the swelling sometimes goes down to my ankle. What should I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome.

Your age and exact description of your injur would have helped but with the little information at hand I would recommend an X-ray of your knee with a doctors physical evaluation for a few maneuvers that will help to rule out or suspect any injuries to ligaments and surrounding structures.

If required an arthroscopy may also be conducted which can be both diagnostic and therapeutic depending on the cause for the presentation. Please consult an orthopedic doctor.

Best wishes.
